Wow.... that was strange
Inter were supposed to get back on their feet after the defeat against Palermo last Sunday against firm underdogs Trabzonspor on Wednesday evening.
But it did not go as planned. Inter were a better side with Gasperini implementing a four-man defense, but with all the scoring opportunities that Inter had, Trabzonspor had one shot on goal and scored.
I could see it coming, the Inter players were desperate, and in the final minutes of the match, they were probably already playing for a 0-0 draw, but it ended 1-0 in Trabzonspor favour.
For some reason the team seems to fall apart at the back when a team starts a counter-attack, even the most mediocre ones.
Obviously the press on Thursday morning will be writing everything possible with regards to Inter coach Gasperini on how his job is on the line.
Moratti was at the match, and if he saw the match like everybody else, he knew it was not the coaches fault and confirmed it after the match.
We can all say Gasperini's job is safe for now.
Inter had so many chances to take the lead, but the ball would not go in. Then to make it hurt even more, Coutinho missed a screamer in the final minutes of the match.
This defeat is not the end of the world, but Inter are slowly running out of excuses now.
Losing out on Forlan till January in the Champions League was a big blow to the team, and it seems Zarate needs a bit of more time to fit in.
As well on Wednesday evening, I started to notice that Zarate is not going down well with the Inter fans, I hope that he does not get the same treatment as Quaresma got when he was at Inter.
Zarate showed some flashes of brilliance against Trabzonspor, and he just as to fit in a bit better with the team.
Inter is practically a new side, and with a new coach and new ideas, it will take some time to make things work.
We must not forget, when Jose Mourinho took over at Inter, he inherited a side that was slowly being built from Cuper to Mancini and then Mourinho. No drastic changes but small tweeks to the team.
Benitez and now Gasperini had a lot on their plate and now I hope some understanding and patience is given to Inter's new coach because he wants to win the most in the team.
Inter must now focus on the big match against Roma this Saturday. Both Roma and Inter are going through a rough patch and hopefully Inter will come out on top, especially with Forlan included in the squad again.
On a final note, it was nice to see Gasperini come out in full uniform. Leonardo was a good coach, but for some reason he never used to wear the Inter colours at major tournanments as Cuper, Mancini, Mourinho and Benitez did.
Forza Inter!!
